(Norfolk, Virginia)
This track is taken from my latest project “Petey’s Soapbox”
Before there was politically correct and inequalities hidden beneath smiles and denials, there was Petey Green. A man of conviction that wasn’t afraid to say the unpopular things to get people’s attention. Petey’s Soapbox is an album dedicated and created in the spirit of the unpopular truth.
Pittsburgh native Grand Ear, who has provided sounds for J. Sands of Lone Catalyst and various Hip-Hop artists in Pittsburgh, creates the gritty boom bap backdrop. Norfolk native Bobby Blunt, better known for his work with Aries Connection, provides the controversial yet witty words.
From the brutal honesty of the first track “I’m Gon Tell the Truth” to the emotional closure of the last track “Grandma” the feel, theme, and message is felt in every song. In the spirit of Public Enemy this album represents a missing piece in today’s Hip Hop climate.

Independent / underground hip hop Rapper/Producer Soulogik appears like a phoenix rising from the unstable conditions of Mozambique. Now residing in Alexandria, VA he is putting the finishing touches on his desperately needed debut album “Higher Unlearning” which is due on August 30th. The album is filled to the brim with detailed images of his corrupt and poverty stricken homeland, boasting a schmorgesborg of sharp production from all over the world.
This is his single “Higher Unlearning”.

Thad Reid is the next rising independent hip hop star to rise up out of Virginia. His grind his heavy and he’s going all all out to make sure you hear what he has to say.
1. What inspired you to get into hip hop?
TR: Music has always had a great influence on my life, and hip-hop was that voice of a new generation so I automatically gravitated towards it. As far as being an artist, my homeboy who rapped would always get me to freestyle and eventually that gave me confidence to actually pursue the craft. Read the rest of this entry »

ALLMANACT is D-Vine, Defakto and S.T.L. And together they make up one of the hottest up and coming, independent, hip hop groups to come out of Virginia. Their self-titled debut album was released this month. Indiehiphop.net interrogated them with 5 questions.
1. Should they legalize weed?
D-VINE: Doesn’t matter to me one way or another. I’m thinking sure, why not….booze is legal, cigarettes
are legal, and weed kills less then either one of those, so sure, go ahead and make it legal. Good thing for the government, they can tax the hell out of those bags.
2. If you were given a chance to be a super hero, what power would you choose?
DEFAKTO: I would have the power to zap people and instantly turn their hairstyles into bald fades with my logo in the back. My name would be BarberShot and my arms would be those red, white and blue barberpoles. That’d be dope! Read the rest of this entry »
