These dudes went H.A.M. on this one. R.A. and Talib both released some amazing projects this year. I got quite a bit of social media blowback and emails about my article declaring that hip hop is better today. The nature of those critiques were whiny rants about the lack of quality today. Hip hop is evolving and progressing. You can stay stuck in the past if you want. The rest of us are moving forward. #fuckouttaherewiththat
This joint is bananas. Busta is not on enough 5 fav lists in my opinion.
“Yo, I plaster the nation, causing evacuation My manifestation got ‘em patient from how I keeps it amazing See, I’m the reason niggas need some training While I’m inflicting the pain and making it suitable for any occasion”
El-P and Killer Mike have teamed up on a joint venture they called Run The Jewels. Here’s a peak at what it’s gonna be like. Sounds promising! It’s on IHH so I fux wit it.
Stumbled on this joint. Kurupt was always one my favorites in that Death Row camp back in the 90s, so it was good to see him get a little shine on this one. It’s on IHH so I fux wit it.
Adrian Younge has been my favorite new producer ever since I discovered that he scored the Black Dynamite movie. He’s an amazing talent. So obviously I was pleased when I found out that he was teaming up with Ghostface for a soon to be released album. I’m looking forward to this one. It’s on IHH so I fux wit it.
Yo, I fux with this silky smooth shit right here. Miguel sounds like he’s channeling the spirits of Marvin Gaye on this joint. This is off of Talib’s soon to be released album, Prisoners of Consciousness. Check it out.
Sean’s Mic Tyson is still on repeat. I saw this video though and immediately thought to myself, “This violent imagery is what a lot of people have issues with when it comes to hip hop music.” Context is everything. Why aren’t people picking on movies and video games that oftentimes display a lot more violence? Well, because it’s far easier to attack an individual then to go after a corporation. I do however feel that settling conflict with violence as the first and only option, especially with guns, is foolish and cowardly. I do hold hip hop artists accountable for their actions outside of the booth. Keep that bullshit on the record, build your career, and strive for longevity. Fans, don’t be weak minded. This shit is entertainment. Treat it as such. Read the rest of this entry »
