14Scarface going into Rock n’ Roll??…WTF?!!!

Okay, Mr. Face drops a few jewels in this interview. The ones I’m particularly referring to are those encouraging up and coming artists to keep striving to reach their goals, BUT this Rock n’ Roll shit is gettin’ outta hand!!
Last week or so, there were hip hop news headlines that Lil Wayne and Lupe Fiasco were making the jump from hip hop to rock music in their future projects. Now I’m all for expansion and evolution. And, being an artists myself, I would never confine a fellow artist to one box. Freedom of creativity is thing that makes music grow and expand….but this may become embarrassing.
Did anyone see Kanye’s last performance on SNL? That’s what a rap star trying to be a rock star looks like. That was painful to watch. When rap meets rock successfully, you get Rage Against the Machine or even Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I also saw the Roots kill a few rock joints in concert. When it’s done bad, you get Ice-T’s band, Body Count. You have to respect and be embraced by the culture before you can just jump in it. You wouldn’t respect Lenny Kravitz if he said he was spittin’ verses on his next album would you? Read the rest of this entry »

04Entertaining Stage Acts Are Missing in Hip Hop

An overwhelming amount of hip hop artists I’ve come in contact with, throughout my years in the biz, spend a lot of time trying to perfect the recording process and not enough time perfecting their stage show. Hip Hop is one of the most influential genres of music today yet there are only a handful of artists who can fill a large venue or have a newsworthy tour.
This is largely due to the fact that fans are often disappointed with the performances of the hip hop acts they pay to see. Being a fan of hip hop myself, I too am often the spectator of performances by artists that are just plain wack. I pay to see some cat walk across the stage, looking ordinary, spitting rhymes that I can barely make out and after two songs, I’m either heading towards the exit or looking to strike up a conversation with someone. This is a leak from an album that actress, Drew Sidora has up and coming. Reportedly the entire album is inspired by a long and turbulent relationship between her and rapper, Yung Berg. This formula worked well for Mary J Blidge and Tina Turner. Maybe Drew can also turn a lemon into lemonade.

125 Things You Can Do To Help Hip Hop

Tagged Under : 5 Things You Can Do To Keep Hip Hop Healthy
- Artists, show up to performances on time
- Stop blaming one rapper for destroying the culture. If one rapper can destroy the culture, it wasn’t that strong to begin with.
- Stop bringing 50 people on stage with you and give me a real show DAMMIT!!
- Stop having fights at award ceremonies. No one will want to sponsor them anymore and it makes hip hop a liability.
- Don’t shoot and/or kill other hip hop entertainers (or anybody for that matter)!

10Stop Hatin’ On Wayne!
Filed Under (Emcees, Hip Hop News) by FuNkwoRm on 10-12-2008
Lil’ Wayne leads the Grammys with 8 nominations this year and the Carter III may well be on it’s way to selling 3 million units. He did this with an album that was leaked to the public months before it’s release and at a time when overall music sales are suffering. Despite these achievements, there are still many who claim hip hop is dead, or that Lil Wayne is helping to destroy this fine culture. Say what you want about Wayne. Hell, you don’t even have to like his shit. This dude, with a lot of grind and hunger for his craft made himself relevant to the game. No gimmicks, no super producers to validate him, no beefs, and no manufactured marketing scheme about his bullet wounds. THAT’S HIP HOP!
I like a handful of Wayne’s songs, but I don’t consider myself a fan. I do however, hear his passion for the game in his records, and you’d be in denial if you didn’t recognize his lyrical improvement over a short span of time. I was one of those who thought the glory days of Cash Money Records had come and gone. A company where most of its star players had jumped ship for one reason or another.
