28Lupe Fiasco Is Going Indie: “I’m definitely not going back into the majors.”

The indie grind is not for everyone. And it’s certainly a helluva lot easier after you’ve built a career and fanbase with a major label machine behind you during most of your years as an artist. But Lupe has been expressing how his artistic integrity has been shitted on, for a while now, while under his current label, Atlantic Records. Says Lupe, ”We’re coming toward the end of our relationship so it’s like a going away party. After this album, I got one [album] left. So, it’s all good for now. They give me my room. I’m definitely not going back into the majors. I’m definitely going indie when we’re done.”
I think Lupe has the kind of fanbase that will support his future endeavors.

26Hopsin – “Ill Mind Of Hopsin 5″ [video]

This video is already at almost 6 million views. It’s hasn’t been up 2 weeks yet. Listen, when it’s all said and done, there will always be an audience for real shit. And if you’re creative enough, crafty enough, UNIQUE enough, you don’t have to spam and shove your shit in people’s faces to get them to pay attention. Listeners will do the work for you. Don’t be discouraged by the bullshit that gets signed to some of the labels. The cream often rises. Nas’ Life is Good is the #1 album right now if that is to be an indicator. There are still a lot of people who haven’t heard of Hopsin. If he keeps this up, that’s gonna change real fast. We posted about is come up some time ago. This post is my contribution to add to his awareness. Check it out.

Sean P and Buckshot created this joint, produced by 9th Wonder and Dan the Man, for this motion picture back in 2009. This was created in honor of the new animated version of the film, Black Dynamite, which is now on adult swim. This is a funny ass film. Do yourself a favor and check it out if you haven’t. I made plans to catch the animated cartoon Sunday night after watching the season opener of Breaking Bad, but I lost track of the time. Anyway, it’s a dope for a dope movie. It’s on IHH so I fux wit it! Read the rest of this entry »

Say what you want. And the matter of whether or not you agree with the substance is not the major issue here. Murs has a set of massive balls for this one. I mean dude has elephantitis of the nutz, Fam. When so much of this rap shit is mindless and void of any relevant content, it’s refreshing, every now and then, to see something in hip hop that stimulates conversation. 01A Day to Celebrate Independent Hip Hop: Rest in Peace “Unsigned” #RIPunsigned
Filed Under (Rants) by FuNkwoRm on 01-07-2012
Tagged Under : Rants, underground hip hop, unsigned

On this date last year, we buried the word “unsigned”. It was a show of solidarity among indie hip hop artists who didn’t like the negative connotation associated with the word. We demanded to be referred to as “independent artists” instead. Many supported the movement and hashtaged #RIPunsigned throughout the day.
I want to build on this network of independent hip hop artists and fans by making this date, July 1st, a day to celebrate our presence. I see this as a way to increasingly bring more attention to some great artists other than what’s represented in the mainstream. Fans of hip hop need a resource for alternatives, and a bigger buzz needs to be created for quality artists.
The music industry, for too long, has given support to the more destructive expression of this art form and it’s way past time for Read the rest of this entry »
